Boerhaave syndrome or spontaneous rupture of the oesophagus is a severe condition commonly misdiagnosed or unrecognized. Prognosis is poor even if the diagnosis is made promptly. This entity requires a multidisciplinary management approach which may include conservative, surgical or endoscopic procedures.
